Over the past few decades I've had the delightful task of teaching marketing to bright learners at the college level, and in continuing education classes. I've found that there is consistent confusion between the definition of sales and marketing. Good marketing leads to the sale, and this truth is still evident with the amazing technologies of online communication devices and systems. Marketing and sales are two different arts and sciences, even though they are linked closely together, and very dependent on each other.

Here is the definition I use for marketing:

"Marketing makes customers fall in love with a company and their products. Marketing delights customers by creating irresistible experiences, and succeeds when customers feel so strongly about a product, brand or company that they integrate it into their daily routines and lifestyles in a measurable way."
